The survey was undertaken to better understand public opinion regarding the concerns of U.S. adults around privacy and technology.

The primary goal of this research is to gain an in-depth understanding of consumers’ attitudes and behaviors regarding online data privacy. Specific research objectives include:

  • Assess the level of comfort in sharing personal data
  • Understand perceptions surrounding responsibility for the protection of consumer data
  • Understand what actions consumers have taken to protect their data
  • Gauge the overall level of concern regarding data privacy
  • Assess the level of trust in various types of companies around handling personal information
  • Understand the types of information U.S. adults are comfortable sharing and with whom
  • Assess U.S. adults’ perceptions of companies who may misuse data or have data breaches
  • Gauge interest levels in various incentives to information sharing
