Aging in Place: Staying Connected with Technology

Aging in Place: Staying Connected with Technology

This CTA research explores the addressable market for aging in the home technologies (age tech) among two primary consumer technology categories – smart home and digital health – and technologies relating to daily living and communications. These tech categories spanned 40 products, with consumers asked whether they would define these as technologies used for aging in place.

Specific objectives include:

  • Understand age tech consumer awareness, current and prospective owners, usage and likelihood to use in the future
  • Understand ownership (personal and shared) and use of age tech, why are they using and likelihood to use in the future
  • Explore drivers of age tech adoption (e.g., low cost, ease of use, doctor-recommended, approved by the Food and Drug Administration [FDA], data privacy)
  • Identify challenges and barriers to age tech present (e.g., cost, education/training on tech)
  • Determine opportunities for technologies to assist aging in the home by exploring gaps between drivers and barriers
