Determination of Television Set Power Consumption (ANSI/CTA-2037-D)

Determination of Television Set Power Consumption (ANSI/CTA-2037-D)

You want to compare the energy consumption of two television sets. They both indicate they use the same amount of power. One of them was tested in a pitch-black room, which caused its automatic brightness control circuitry to dim the screen. The other was tested in a well-lit room, so its automatic brightness control circuitry brightened the screen for better visibility. Under similar viewing conditions in the same room they likely wouldn’t have the same power consumption. How do you make sure you’re comparing apples to apples when comparing TV set energy consumption? You make sure the TVs were tested using a standard test procedure. That’s what CTA-2037-D is. It describes things like the ambient light during testing, what video should be playing on the TV during the test, how measurements should be made, and much more.
